Does anybody know if the type of bearings in a spindle influence tool life?

Post Body

This might seem like a silly question, but I was wondering if a tapered roller bearing would give better tool life than angular contact bearings for relatively low speed RPMs like a 50mm U-drill running at 1000rpm on a spindle with a 60mm bore bearings. Let's assume bearing runout is the same.

Will the extra contact patch of the tapered roller bearings help tool life by dampening or something? If so, would oil Vs grease lubrication also matter?

Axial and radial load are what you want to look at for either bearing type. Preloading two angular contact bearings in a back to back arrangement will also give you contact angles that support axial and radial loads optimally. Really depends what your machine is tho.
