I recently started playing games on Steam and when using a headset it is very inconsistent. It will work for a few minutes and then stop. I bought a new Razer Headset and tried plugging it in to the MBP Headphone jack. Worked for a little bit and then just stopped.
I tried messing around with the MIDI settings and created an aggregate device and still did not have much luck. I decided to buy an adapter which has a Mic and Headphone jack Input and a USB-C Output. I just tried that and it did not work for longer than a few minutes. I have messed with the Sound settings on the OS as well as in Steam and the input for the mic just does not stay operational for long. I have tested with various headsets and get the same result every time.
My specs and setup: 2023 16" MBP M2 Max with 64GB and running Sonoma 14.4.1. Razer BlackShark V2 X Gaming Headset using CableCreation Type C External Sound Card with 3.5 mm Audio Jack, USB-C Microphone Adapter.
I also play with my MBP open (Not in clamshell) and am connected to an external monitor via HDMI.
Has anyone run into this issue before? I tried searching this subreddit but most of the results were program/game specific. I can't even get the OS to recognize the Audio/Mic setup consistently.
Thanks
