For software engineers, is 8GB enough?
Post Body

It's finally my turn for a laptop refresh in my company. I am currently using a dell latitude 7470, but I really want to try working with a macOS this time. Unfortunately, they can only afford me an i5 model with 8GBs of RAM, but is that enough? My work mostly involves back end development and the most taxing processes I put my current machine on are usually running containers (when i test locally before putting on staging servers), apache (testing) and DB (testing)...

I was hoping macOS had less RAM requirements than windows, kind of like how iOS needs less ram than android. If that isn't the case, then I might just push for a cheaper windows laptop with 16GBs of RAM.

I'm also definitely planning to run parallels on my macOS if I switch for windows needed tasks.

Oh and I'm aiming to just buy the non touch bar model, because i have no use for the touch bar. So it's the 2017 model that I'm planning to get.
