So I'm about to return the 10c/16c M1 MacBook Pro that came in earlier this week and not entirely sure whether to go for the base model (for the M2) or upgrade to 12 cores. Not sure why they lowered the performance cores to 6 on the base model and looks like they're charging an extra $450 just to match the performance cores with the M1 model. Well I get the GPU cores are increased to 19 as well, but still $450 is a lot.
M1 10c/16c = 8 performance 2 efficiency
M2 10/16c = 6 performance 4 efficiency
M2 12c/19c = 8 performance 2 efficiency
Any reason the extra $450 is worth it with regards to the CPU (ignoring the GPU)? I'm mainly working on Excel, coding, and potentially doing data science and machine learning stuff in the future. But really most of the time I'll be web browsing and watching TV/anime. Just trying to justify whether the extra $450 is worth it or not. (I'm from Canada btw).
