Want to setup a MacBook Pro 2019 with a secondary Monitor and a mouse, what do I need?

Hey.
I'm usually a PC user, but I've taken a new job which requires a MacBook. Not sure what I need to get to have a second monitor (my employer will be providing something eventually, but I want a setup for a second location and don't want to have to lug it all around).
Do I need a specific type of monitor and mouse, or at least specific requirements from it? Do I need to get a dock or are there any monitors that can plug directly into the laptop? Looking for the cheapest solution :)
