Late 2013 MacBook Pro Strange Behavior
Post Body

Hi everyone.

I need some help with my Late 2013 13ā€ MacBook Pro. This computer has some known issues, but theyā€™re not a problem for me, and I donā€™t think theyā€™re the cause of my problems. For some reason lately (about the past month or so) this computer has been extremely slow at random times. It also seems to be struggling with basic tasks, such as watching 1080p60 content on YouTube. Several months ago I had this machine driving dual 1440p monitors, and it played back 1440p60 content perfectly while doing other tasks in the background.

In addition to the overall slow performance, the machine has been running quite warm. The heatsink is completely clean, and the thermal paste was just replaced in November, so thatā€™s not the issue. Iā€™m running a fairly clean copy of macOS Mojave 10.14.6, and there doesnā€™t seem to be anything unusual running in the background. Iā€™m not running any virtual machines or anything, and I donā€™t play games on this computer. I do have Windows installed on a separate partition, but thatā€™s not my issue.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong with this computer? Iā€™ve done a couple SMC resets, and they donā€™t seem to do much. The battery isnā€™t in the greatest health, so could that be a potential culprit? Any suggestions are welcome, as Iā€™d love to be able to get more use out of this computer.
