M1 macbook battery life?

just picked up a new m1 macbook pro a couple days ago, it’s been running smooth and all and I updated to the latest big sur 11.4. however the battery life has been far less than claimed, running garageband and chrome lasts me 4 hours at most before it hits ~15% and I have to charge it. I tried running some games like dota which ate up 50% of the batt in an hour. anyone having the same experience? could I have gotten a dud battery?
