Hello everyone. I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the rules on r/mac. This is an active community with lots of great discussions taking place, but there are also some issues sometimes. I’m making this post as a general reminder for people to notice the rules and follow them. We aren’t too strict about the rules, but they are in place for a reason and need to be followed.
Be civil
- Please be kind to one another. r/mac is not a place for fighting. Insults will not be tolerated.
- This rule should be pretty self-explanatory. Be nice to others and have friendly discussions. Being rude isn’t nice, and people don’t appreciate it. Discussions should be civil, and people should be willing to listen to all sides of an argument.
Follow Reddiquette
- Please click the link to read about Reddiquette: https://www.reddithelp.com/en/categories/reddit-101/reddit-basics/reddiquette
- This is a good topic to read for anyone on Reddit, and especially new users of Reddit. The basics are as follows: be polite, remember the human, and use your votes. If you see something you like and it fits the subreddit, give it an upvote. Likewise if you see something that you don’t like and/or it doesn’t fit the subreddit, give it a downvote.
- Report any spam you find: this is something else that needs to be done more. If you see something that doesn’t fit the subreddit, feel free to report it. If the content breaks one of our rules, choose the rule that has been broken. If it is something else besides that simply choose the best option.
No unrelated posts
- Posts must be related to r/mac, which means computers made by Apple. This is not a subreddit for iPhones, iPads, and other Apple products (with exceptions). Posts unrelated to r/mac will be removed
- Pictures of boxes are not related to r/mac. (This point is going to be discussed later)
- This is also a simple rule. Is your post about a Mac? If so, you can post it (as long as it is something useful or perhaps funny). Is your post about your iPhone? Nope, not here. iPads? Not here either. These items may be the subjects of posts if they are being used in conjunction with a Mac, such as an iPad being used for Sidecar.
Flair your posts
- Please flair your posts appropriately. All posts that are not flaired are subject to removal.
- To submit a post on r/mac, choosing an appropriate post flair is required.
No self promotion or advertising
- Self promotion or free advertising is not allowed on r/mac. If your post is found to be associated with a brand, product, or service, it will be removed.
- Do not post anything that is intended to be an advertisement or promotion. These posts aren’t allowed on r/mac, and as the rule says they will be removed.
Only post pictures of your Macs on My Mac days
- Only post pictures of your computers on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in order to reduce spam. This does not apply to Macs that were made over 10 years ago.
- If it is Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday where you are, please refrain from posting a picture of your Mac unless you are posting in need of assistance.
Another important thing to mention that isn't specifically mentioned in the rules is the importance of reporting content that breaks the rules. There is no need to keep content on r/mac that isn't allowed by the rules, and reporting it brings it to our attention quicker.
This post will be added to in the near future, but for now this will serve as a general reminder of all the rules for the community and the expectations of the members. By following these rules and doing our own part as individuals, r/mac can remain as a great place to go for Mac discussion, troubleshooting, sharing and more. If you have any questions about any of these rules, feel free to send us a Modmail. You can do this at this link.
