Help desperately needed for spell checker on new Mac word

Hi there. I recently got a new MacBook for work. I previously had an 10 year old Mac so the jump has been big. I have a major issue that the spell check just doesn’t seem to work properly on word which is a big issue for me as I am dyslexic and my spelling is appalling.

As you can see from the photo I don’t get a red underline when things are misspelt and the there doesn’t seem to be a dedicated spell check box like I used to get. Just the Editor at the right hand side of the page which just spinning wheels while saying Scanning Document.

If anyone can help me with this you’ll probably save me my job down the line! I’m sure there must be some way to fix it but I can’t for the life of me figure it out and I am getting a little desperate now.
