So I recently started a bachelors in medicine, and so far I've been using a higher spec m2 MacBook Air (10 core GPU, 8 gb of RAM and 512gb of storage) and its honestly the bets laptop I've had so far and really easy to just take everywhere. When im at home I connect my laptop to a screen, keyboard and trackpad, and I basically use it as a desktop.
However I've been looking into getting something a bit more desktop like, due to different reasons like the connectivity of the adapter im using (apple usb-c to multimedia adapter), where stuff will sometimes just disconnect or it will outright not work until I plug everything out and put it back in. Also just some space restraints since I don't have much space on my desk.
So I've been looking at the normal M2 Mac Mini, which as you know is very budget friendly and stuff, but it's also basically just a "semi" worse version of my current MacBook Air. worse in the sense that it has less storage even tho it would have better sustained performance. So I've also been looking at the pro variant, which basically an upgrade in every department compared to my MacBook Air (in all comparable measures, i.e. RAM, CPU, GPU, storage is the same but you get the point). Yeah it is a bit more expensive but I could probably fit it into my budget if I decided to go with it, so that's not really the biggest issue.
I was also looking into getting the "pro apps bundle for education" since I quite enjoy fiddling around with that kind stuff and making videos and maybe potentially music. If I get the bundle I feel like the pro variant would be more worth.
Also regardless of what I go with ill probably wait till M3 versions have been released cuz again its not really an urgent thing and I can wait.
So yeah im trying to decide between 1) Staying with my MacBook Air. 2) buying the base Mac mini and when/if im doing creative work, then I won't expect much. or 3) Spending more and buying the pro variant, and basically just have a better and faster desktop than my current laptop for when I need a bit more power.
So yeah if you read this far I wanna say thank you, and if you have any input or insight then I would greatly appreciate it.
