I have an unspecified b cell lymphoma similar to CLL, including trisomy 12. It was treated at the start of the pandemic in Jan 2020. Massive splenomegaly and high lymphocytes. My numbers are at the high end of normal range now and apart from the spleen aching when I eat too much, it's not affected me. Haven't even had a cold since early 2019. It looks like my next treatment won't be for at least another 2 years.
I was really good. Masked, stayed home, worked from home, even got groceries delivered. I understood that my condition and covid didn't mix well.
I used my bicycles to exercise alone. At night, in the snow, whenever. Then my knee started going bad - focal lesions of patella that won't heal. I got fat (40 lbs) I can't bike any more due to the crunching knee symptoms.
I sneaked out to my old gym for 2-3 weeks and started feeling good. I could see my old friend, the quadriceps muscle again by avoiding the range of motion that was shredding my kneecap and just focusing on the ends of motion. Having a place to swim and lift in winter was really nice.
Then omicron hit and now I'm getting scared. I chose to stay in this past week with the same fear as the beginning of the pandemic.
I got the triple Pfizer vax and had a positive tither after two doses. I should be fairly well protected. My hematologist is telling me to go live a normal life except avoiding physical impacts with the spleen like contact sports.
Has anybody else found themselves sneaking back out to the gym because they can't stand how they feel anymore despite a degree of risk?
