With spoilers releasing, what are your early impressions about Midnight Hunt?
Some of my observations:
Disturb has potential as a fun limited mechanic. As an example, Baithook Angler // Hook-Haunt Drifter looks like a good early body, and a well costed mana sink for later turns. Not exactly a 2 for 1, but could play similarly to Eternalize or Embalm.
Flashback is back! This will be fun limited players.
Coven looks clunky in limited. Requiring 3 creature with 3 different Powers is a tricky requirement. As an example, Contortionist Troupe is an XG spell with ability to grow, and that looks powerful at first. But then consider you need three creatures in play, with different powers, to get that payoff. Even with the flexibility of an X Spell, it seems clunky for a small payoff. [edit: while I still think Coven seems clunky, my view is changed about Contortionist: Ivy Elemental with Upside has potential. Gotta see the set, but I see where I misevaluated. Thanks for helping me improve that!]
