So I've been looking for an MMO that gives you the experience of playing a skilled stealthy rogue. Unfortunately my only machine right now is my mediocre college laptop.
Games that I've tried so far have been Old School Runescape and ROTMG. The idea of class fantasy doesn't really apply to either of those games. OSRS doesn't restrict what you can and can't do through classes, and ROTMG is so simplistic that there isn't much of a class fantasy.
Something else I really like is the experience of class identity. Games where people talk to you differently and have a different experience of you based on your playstyle, if that makes sense. MMOs that do this well probably have some consistent 'class stereotypes'.
What I'm currently interested in are Guild Wars 2 and Classic WoW. When I played GW2 in high school Thief was my favorite. When I played regular WoW I got forced into being a healer by my friends. Since the focus in Classic WoW for me would be on leveling, exploring the world, and potentially ganking, Rogue seems like it'll be a lot of fun.
So how is the Rogue class fantasy/identity in these two games, and how is it in others that I might not have considered yet?
