Vibemate app won't disconnect from toy

I have used the Vibemate app several times with vibrations synced to videos and it works good. The issue that I have is that every time I use it when I shut down the app then try to go back into the Connect app it is disconnected from my toy and can't find it. Seems that when shutting down Vibmate that still latches on to the toy Bluetooth and I need to reboot my phone to make it work again. Is there some other procedure for disconnecting the toy from the Vibemate app that I am not doing correctly?
