I know that this has been discussed a lot, but I feel like it is getting worse year after year. This idea that Frodo wasn't a hero.
This characterization started building in FOTR, when they skip Frodo stabbing at the Witch-King, and then don't show Frodo standing up to the gathered Nazgul at the Ford of Bruinen.
However, by the third movie, we are getting into straight up character assassination, and most people know what I am talking about. As bad as Faramir is presented, Frodo is presented that much worse.
It bothers me, because most LOTR fans are likely movie fans only, these days. They don't know how noble, strong, and brave Frodo really is. Also, if you think about Frodo too much, you start to realize that even the well-presented and well-liked movie characters are also brought several notches down from their book counterparts. Aragorn's entire reluctant hero arc, for example.
The movies are great for continuing Tolkien's wonderful legacy, but I grow more worried that the ultimate result will be to tarnish the world and the characters that he built.
