... but if "meat's back on the menu" this imply Orcs know about menu options and that some may choose to go meatless. This further implies there are restaurants where Orcs can order off a menu which also implies that there are Orc waiters, Orc cooks, Orc dishwashers. This also implies Orcs understand marketing and advertising which further implies some notion of finances and accounting.
The more you think about it, the more complex and evolved the orcs sound.
But Tolkien wanted the Orcs to be seen as mindless and cultureless drones in order to portray evil. But I think that the new RoP series gets it right by making the Orcs sympathetic beings. RoP showed us what blue and white collar orcs (the middle management of orc society looks like)
They dont want to fight endlessly, they want to settle down and start vegan restaurants and watch their Orc babies thrive and live in peace.
