Book Boromir vs Movie Boromir

I grew up watching the movies countless times, and didn't read the books until last year. I have to say, while I think the movies did a fantastic job capturing the spirit of the books, Boromir's character was changed a bit. In the movies, Boromir is proud and friendly towards the hobbits, but clearly has a chip on his shoulder towards Aragorn, which makes complete sense, since Aragorn becoming king would mean Boromir's family would no longer be in charge. He is a bit rude and combative when speaking to Aragorn, and comes off a little aggressive when speaking to other party members as well. Once again, this all makes sense, since he is a great warrior and military man.

In the books, though, he is certainly proud and arrogant, but he is nothing but kind and helpful towards the other members of the Fellowship. The reason I like this more is because when he approaches Frodo for the Ring, and his behavior has completely changed, it is more jarring. It didn't seem weird for movie Boromir to snap at Frodo like that, but it was very out of character for book Boromir, which I think better illustrates the power of the Ring over the will and personality of men. I also like that scene more in the book: in the movie, Boromir is just angry and tries to convince Frodo that the Ring can help him destroy his people's enemies, but in the book he almost feels more like an addict trying to get his fix.
