Post Body

I posted this here about a year ago but it never really took off, trying again.

Theresa Duncan was an artist most known for her work in the 1990s as a pioneer in video games marketed towards young girls. These games were critically acclaimed. Tragically, she and her boyfriend, Jeremy Blake, died in 2007. There is quite a lot of controversy around their deaths and their mental state prior to their deaths, a very interesting story, but not what this post is about. If you want to read more about their deaths and the controversy surrounding them, a longform article was written about them in 2008: (tw - mentions of suicide) The Golden Suicides.

In 2002, Theresa Duncan was in talks to be writing a screenplay called Alice Underground. The plot was said to surround two prep school girls who kidnap a rockstar in an attempt to save him from a cult. It was to take place in the 1960s and take inspiration from Alice in Wonderland. Duncan has claimed that she was in talks with Beck Hansen for the main role of the rockstar, which was controversial at the time because of his connections to Scientology.

What I would love to find is either a full copy of the screenplay or the "style book" that Theresa Duncan used to pitch/market the film. A full version of the screenplay likely exists, as seen in photos on this blog. It even shows photos of a Paramount table read of the screenplay featuring several semi-notable actors. As for the style book, a video uploaded to Vimeo shows a book with various photo collages that likely influenced the film and excerpts from the screenplay itself.

It is not at all likely that a full copy of the screenplay will surface anytime soon, but the style book does not seem incredibly difficult to find. Alice Underground seems like a super interesting concept, and it was unfortunate that it never came to fruition. It would be awesome if this sub could help me on these searches!
