Well, this has certainly been quite an adventure. I want to start digitizing my 8mm collection, so I bought a device for doing so off Amazon. After arriving late, the device proved to be defective after I left it alone for the hours needed to go through a 20 minute reel. I came home to a giant pile of hopelessly tangled and crumpled film, since somewhere along the way, the device stopped feeding it into the empty reel.
Now, the footage would be lost forever if put through this under most circumstances, but since I'm passionate about this, and perhaps slightly insane, I spent an entire day plus sometime into the next unraveling the mess and putting it back on a reel, breaking it countless times both on accident and on purpose, then carefully reattaching the two pieces.
I am proud to say I saved this footage and you can hardly tell how much it went through by watching it.
By following the link below, you will be treated to a very nice compilation of clips taken throughout 1950s Europe, from people going about their day, cars zooming down the road, ancient sites, boat rides, aerial views, mountain views, forests, trains, zoo animals...this lovely film has it all.
It's a very organic view into what it was like in that place and time, given that it was shot by an amateur who happened to do an exceptional job.
I own the rights to this footage as they were included with the purchase, but you may use it as you please.
(Also, this probably goes without saying, by the audio was dubbed by me. I just figured it's a better viewing experience with some Mozart as opposed to utter silence.)
