I've just noticed for the first time that the person who's vehicle hits Jack's future wife, Sara, and breaks her back in the flashback in season 2, was Shannon's father. Jack chose to work on Sara in the ER rather than Mr. Rutherford when they both entered the ER that day, resulting in Mr. Rutherford's death.
