Losing weight while loving food

I’ve (43m, 6’1” 275ish) determined that I need to take better care of myself as I’m getting older and want to avoid some of the negative effects of being overweight/obese and aging. The problem is that I love food, especially barbecue, and tend to eat in large quantities most of the time. What strategies can I use to lose weight without also depriving myself of the foods that I enjoy? Would something as simple as reducing portion size while eating the same foods give results?
