I'm asking as a personal trainer (who is in an ongoing quest to understand and keep learning stuff they don't teach in university). Sure they teach us 1542 things about goal-setting, but most of it is theoretical, and has very little real life application.
I am looking for suggestions that I can pass on to my clients, as suggestions to have as realistic goals, that are NOT related to a number on the scale. I always say that the scale does not measure fitness. It's part of result tracking, but it's only part of the answer.
The easy(ish) go-to suggestion I usually give is start to looking at walking and eventually running goals, but I fully understand that may not appeal to many (most) people. So, for those that have less than zero interest in running, what are some goals, preferably fitness-related, that might keep an obese person motivated?
For those that have lost signifigant weight, did you have a secondary goal that was not a number on the scale?
