What are your opinions on the fitness industry, and its disconnect with the general population?
Post Body

I am asking as a fitness professional. I am increasingly perplexed by what I perceive to be a huge disconnect between the fitness industry and the population that we aim to serve. As scientific research progresses, so do obesity rates. I'm quite curious of what your are opinions on the weight-loss industry as a whole. I would like to hear from both successful weight-loss stories, and those who are currently struggling. What are some things that you think the fitness industry is missing the boat on. I am well aware that human motivation is an extremely complicated topic, despite massive research efforts. It's a topic that is still, evidently, far from resolved. I want to gain an insight on the obese person's perspective on the current trends, and how it effects your motivation. What suggestions would you make for professionals in the industry?

As a (new) fitness facility manager, I am asking this to get an insight into that is keeping a significant market that desperately needs help, at a distance from the answers they desperately need. How are gyms failing so miserably at attracting members. Aside from the obvious, and well justified, anxiety issues that come with attending a fitness facility, what would you like to see gyms change in their current methods of thinking.

What I am attempting to get insight on is how exercise can be extremely addictive for a percentage of the population, while also being extremely repulsive for most people.

And lastly, for those who have successfully lost significant weight, aside from being faced with a medical emergency or impending health issue, is there anything you can pinpoint as being the defining moment for deciding to make changes...
