Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster
I am 6’3” 280 lbs and have never been in shape. I’ve fluctuated between the 250-300 range for the last 10 years or so, looking my best around 225-240 but have gone to the other extreme due to extreme diet/exercise/metabolism/cultural shift from living in the USA to walking everywhere for 2 years as a Mormon missionary in Argentina. At one point I was very unhealthy but weighed in at about 175lbs and a strong breeze would have knocked me over. I have steadily tipped the scales in the wrong directions since about 2014 and have tried many different things but never consistently enough to notice a difference in how I feel.
I have some mental struggles(ADHD/MDD) and a difficult but not unmanageable home life(spouse with Hashimotos/PTSD/Anxiety/PCOS). We both work from home and know that we need to lose weight, but between her anxiety and my depression/ADHD we can’t get either of us to do the thing we need to do. Over the last 6 months I went off an antidepressant and ADHD medication, tried phentermine(became an angry reactive monster) and went back on ADHD meds and antidepressant.
I’ve written off my weight gain as happiness in my marriage at first, and later blamed the pandemic and at other times said I’m struggling too much financially to focus on my diet, food is already too expensive for the stuff that’s bad for me, health foods are going to be even worse for my flailing finances.
Now that I am back on a decent regimen for work and school(in an online MBA) and finances are under control, I need some help starting. Positive vibes, advice for overcoming mental blocks, etc. Not sure if there is a type of post/flair for this, like I said I mostly just lurk on Reddit, so be merciful please mods.
