At long last... -30lbs
Post Body

Hi guys. Like many of you I'm sure, my recent weight loss just kind of happened after many unsuccessful attempts. Now I have hit the big - 3 0 I just kind of want to talk about how I got here.

I've been heavy set off and on my entire life. I was a chunky kid and when I was 14 I weighed 180lbs. But when I was 15, I weighed 130, back up to 180 by 18, down to 135 by 20, to 190 at 23, and stayed there until I was 28, when I experienced some pretty serious health issues and went allll the way up to 260lbs. And it's just kind of stuck around ever since, for 5 years.

I've tried calorie counting (multiple times) and keto/low carb diets. About twice a year since I went up to 260, I get entirely sick of my appearance and want to change. One of my biggest weaknesses is that I absolutely will not be 'hitting the gym' any time soon. I simply don't have the bandwidth right now, and it's not a priority.

I actually hated low carb and calorie counting. I dunno, it was a lot of extra work (can you tell I am type B?!) and the food I felt I had to restrict myself to in order to meet the diet requirements wasn't to my liking. I always crashed and burned after a month.

One thing I am fantastic at, however, is tolerating hunger. I am no stranger to fasting- even being morbidly obese, I actually fasted MOST days for 10-12 hours. Hunger pangs just don't bother me a lot usually and I rarely get noticeably more fatigued or irritable when I fast.

But when I started my new job I took it up a notch. I started a new job in July. It was my first office job and I needed to either bring a lunch or buy one from a restaurant. I do not do either. I have coffee with cream and sugar in the morning, occasionally a piece of candy or small pastry. I'll get home, eat dinner (whatever I want, with a drink), a piece of fruit, a small snack or dessert, and that's my day.

Apart from being mindful about eating a sufficient amount of protein, I don't count calories or have off limit foods. I honestly eat like junk to tell you the truth. But I don't feel bad usually. Sometimes I'll be SUPER hungry in the morning or midday and if that's the case, if I really want/need to eat, I will. And I never worry about 'messing up my diet'. I basically respond to my body's NEED for food, but not before then.

Anyhow, apart from fasting, I go for walks on my lunch break, and take the train to work which involves more walking than my previous (extremely sedentary WFH job), and in 7.5 months I've managed to lose 31 lbs. I'm 229lbs now! At this rate, I'll hit 200 by September.

It's slowwww. Such is the case when you value your play/sleep time over your health and fitness. 😅 I am, essentially, slowly starving myself over time, not replacing fat with muscle. But it works for me. I feel like I don't have to 'do' anything. Not doing anything is more my thing. I didn't even have to try this time, it just kind of happened, and naturally fit my lifestyle du jour.

My favorite thing so far about weight loss is the ability to fit into smaller clothing sizes. I can shop the 'large' section of the thrift store now. Hell yeah! Plus size fashion is so depressing.

Hopefully by this time next year I'll be back to a cool 180, or even 175. I think my GW is 150 because I have at least several pounds of loose skin hanging around and I want to get to a place I can realistically maintain. Hot take, but if I'm going to die younger being 15 lbs overweight, I'll happily do it over this level of restricting for my entire life.

Anyways, all the luck and success to you losers! Feel free to reply with your questions/comments/own stories :)
