In the rainforest covered hills of Peru, west of the Ucayali River, the remains of a ceremonial ground were found. The tribe is unknown, although it is thought to be the unnamed tribe from Incan texts (circa 500 AD) that was to be avoided. The only reason stated for this being "where they walk the earth is sour." The gods for which these masks are made had names inscribed on the inside, preserved in clay from a mudslide centuries ago (which is speculated to have been the end of the tribe itself). Most have been translated by historians with confidence. However the final mask uncovered (from much deeper in the Earth than the others, as if it were buried before the mudslide) could only be loosely translated.
