Hpbt ammo?

Hi folks. That ammo seek app has been a godsend, but the only 308 match ammo I can find right noe is hollow point. I know I'm naive on the long range subject, but it seems to me like having an open end on a bullet would adversely affect range or accuracy. Am I mistaken? What's your experience with them? Is it a good substitute for learning long range in the mean time?
