Iām sure this is something I could have easily googled but I figured, why not just ask a bunch of random strangers on a public forum?
I have a Remington 700 build in .30-06 which still has the stock barrel. This rifle is my hunting rifle but I have also been modifying it to help me practice and hone my techniques for long range shooting. Iām going to be putting a muzzle brake on the barrel and I have thought about shortening the barrel while having the machinist thread it. I understand that when you shorten the barrel you lose some velocity and gain some accuracy. One of my main concern is, that it will affect what ammunition I can use off the shelf and the stability of projectiles in flight. Does anyone have any insight?
TL;DR: I want to shorten my Remington 700 .30-06 barrel. What are the potential drawbacks?
