Athena’s Origin Story:
We first met Athena, a beautiful, male Maine Coon mix in 2020. He, along with 2 neutered males found their way onto our porch. The cats were so friendly and well-behaved— we were certain they had a home.
Eventually, we found the other 2 cats loving homes, but we were in no hurry to say goodbye to Athena. Initially, we mistook Athena for a female cat; we took Athena to the vet to make sure “she” was spayed. To our surprise, we learned that Athena is a neutered male!
After interviewing the neighbors we discovered that this merry band of cat brothers was abandoned when one of our neighbors moved! We learned Athena’s name was “Tigre” he, however, no longer responds to this name, seemingly walking away from his heartbreaking past.
Nonetheless, Athena quickly took to his new name. Since then, Athena is up to date on all his shots and has received monthly flea treatment and yearly vet care, and plenty of companionship.
Personality
Athena is an incredibly social, sweet, cuddly, playful, vocal, and gentle cat. Athena loves to spend his time napping with a Hooman or one of his other furry friends (he gets along with nice dogs), if neither are available a sunny patch will do! Athena has natural leadership qualities but is not pushy with other cats or pets. He’s a live-and-let-live type of cat, he's something of a patient pacifist.
Ideal Home
Athena deserves a loving home and will do well with a small family or couple, given the level of affection and attention he enjoys. Athena does well with other cats, friendly dogs, strangers, and kids. He’s not one to scratch or bite, but he’s partial to pouncing on feet if they move under the blankets! He’s silly and regal, and will do well in a home that can appreciate his majestic Maine Coon-mix vibe!
Why We’re Re-Homing
The home we have been living in for many years was recently sold. As we scrambled to find appropriate housing to accommodate our furry family, we unfortunately only found properties that accepted a 2-pet max. We need to find Athena a home by the end of the month. Athena is bonded in particular with one of our other fosters (the tuxedo in the pics), please let us know if you’d consider adopting both.
Rehoming Fee
To ensure Athena goes to a loving home, with a financially responsible owner, who does not harbor ill intentions (dog fighting, cat hoarding, etc.) we are asking for a donation of $50 to be made to the ASPCA. If you are unaware of the importance of a rehoming fee, please do your research. We can meet Athena's future owner anywhere in the L.A. area.
