Why does it hurt

After many months of trying to find someone, I've had little luck and each time it fails a small piece of me falls away, dating apps make it worse as when I do match we chat for a bit and it goes well (to me at least it does) and then they just disappear and it hurts because if I am the problem why can't they tell me what I've done wrong? I'd rather be told then just ignored and discarded
