Hello everyone,
Hope that you’re well. I’m a totally blind American from Ky that snowbirds to the Caribbean in the winter. I enjoy podcasts, reading, jiu-jitsu and going to the beach.
It’s extremely hard to meet people and make friends now that I am blind. I haven’t always been blind. When I was 18 I had a car accident where I hit a tree that had fallen into the road. A branch impaled me into my face and took my vision with it. It’s ok, I’m alright; doesn’t hurt anymore. However, being lonely is quite hard.
I realize it is hard to believe that a blind person can use a phone, Reddit, etc. There’s an entire subreddit for r/blind. I use something called a screenreader; this is a setting / feature that reads aloud text and allows me to use my phone.
As I’ve said, it’s very, very difficult to meet people and make friends. People see a blind man and have negative opinion and low expectations.
I’m not sure what I’m looking for on here. Friends or something more would be fun.
