Is it this hard for everyone?
Post Body

Hey there, not sure where else to turn. I moved to a new city about 10 years ago with my ex wife who kept us very isolated. When she divorced me 4 years ago, I tried to make friends and build a life here. I was still in my early to mid 30’s and really had a positive outlook.

I met a woman who I feel deeply in love with, and we have spent the last 3 years trying to make it work. She says she has never been happy in the relationship and has pulled away for the entire time we’ve been together. I worked to change what she didn’t like, hoping it would help but it never did. I took her on expensive vacations and paid for everything, took her to every hockey game I had tickets for as a season ticket holder, and paid for pretty much everything in our relationship. I bought her gifts, encouraged her passions, offered to support her, but was always turned away.

I spend 6 days a week alone. Now she wants to end things completely. I don’t know what to do. I love her deeply, but it is a one way street. I have no one else here in this city I can talk to. I’m alone, sad, and dying for connection to another human. By nature I’m an introvert, so making friends is very hard.

Is it this hard for everyone? I just wanted one person to be my friend and partner. That was dream in life and after failed relationship after failed relationship, I have to wonder if I’m just not meant to be with anyone.
