Why can't people just be brutally honest instead of leaving me on read/delivered?

I would much rather have someone say "f*ck off, I don't want to talk about you" rather than them leaving me on read/delivered for days, weeks or even months.

I have a bad habit of clinging onto hope that the person will eventually talk to me. I love telling myself "oh, they're just busy right now" and other BS excuses. I wish they would just say straight up they don't want to talk to me and make life easier for both of us.
