Almost a decade ago I was trying to learn how to play the guitar. My grandmother gifted me one and I was happy I received it. But no one in my family plays it so my parents enrolled me to guitar lessons. I was having fun, enjoying the lessons and see myself improve after each one added to the practice I do at home. So one night my parents asked me to play something I learned, I can't remember the title but im sure if I heard it again ill know the song. Anyway, they asmed to play so I did I tried to sing with it too. Right after the little bit I master they said something along the lines of "you're doing good but maybe you should just be a guitarist and not sing." And I just had a thought just now about that moment and I realized how impactful what they have said to me in my confidence in singing. I got lazy going to my lessons after that, eventually stop. Doesn't practice anymore. I love singing before even tho no ones listening just me singing songs that I like. Since then i just sing them quietly or in my head. You won't be able to make me sing karaoke too unless im drunk. Sold my pretty good quality guitar for 20 dollars. And just gave up learning that instrument or any other instrument.
What im saying is, if you are a parent you should really watch the words you say to your child.
