Hayes to Paddington

Hello! I wonder if anyone here has any experience on this stretch of road. I'm finally off tomorrow and I'm thinking, to cap off a long working week is to try and cycle from Hayes to Paddington and back via the Grand union canal path.
I was wondering about the terrain. I have a road bike with 700x25c tyres. Is it too muddy? Rocky? Should I take my hybrid instead? Or can anyone suggest a better route. Much appreciated :)
