Just moved here. Getting internet to my flat with a "data line"
Post Body

Hey,

So I've just moved to London from Sydney and have moved into a brand new flat in Brixton. I'm having some trouble getting internet sorted.

I first spoke to Sky and signed up for their broadband. An engineer from OpenReach came out to connect it and there's no phone line into the flat, only a data line. The landlord refuses to allow a phone line to be run into the flat, which means I need to find an internet provider through the data line.

I didn't realise that this was a thing in the UK, with flats not having phone lines.

I spoke to BT and the woman there was super confused about what a data line was (aren't we all) and said their internet needed a phone line, and Virgin said that they didn't have cables for that in Brixton.

Was hoping for some advice / suggestions - I work from home regularly and can't keep hotspotting off my phone forever. Particularly given I brought my PS4 so right now I can't stream or game which makes living in a new city even tougher. Does anyone know what the deal with the "data line" is and any providers I could speak to?
