In addition to boycotting, we need our Government to get involved and do their job…

As part of the boycott, some of our demands should be with government. Not only with grocers. Government needs to get involved here…

1- No more member pricing. Member pricing should be for everyone. Grocers are benefiting from our personal data and they don’t need it. They know which products are movers and losers with the aggregate sales.

2- Any retailer should be providing a buyer with something to carry their purchases out of the store. This should be a minimum requirement. Who are we kidding that these reusable bags are better, when in fact, we’re not reusing them, and keep buying them. No one needs to spend an extra dollar or two to buy bags a on top of spending hundreds on groceries. Any bag should be included in your grocery haul.

3- Canada weights and measures need to be present in these stores. Very often, weights and volumes are not as advertised.

4- Same with CFIA… discounting expired foods, and foods that have been exposed to warmer than acceptable temperatures and then sold.

5- Also, not sure of this happens, but CFIA should also be involved with those grocers who sell “prepared foods”. Too many stories about expired foods being used as part of the preparation. Are there any cleanliness ratings for these outfits?

6- Retailers should not be charging Food producers display and sell their products. Grocers should be negotiating the best prices for the product. Any additional cost is just being passed onto the consumer, and profits pocketed.

7- Self check outs should be eliminated or severely limited. Consumers are not grocery store employees. If I am forced to do work, I want to be justly compensated for it.

8- Food producers: bring back coupons! More coupons mean that maybe, just maybe, more of the savings make it to consumers.

9- Government should force the sale and spinoff of recently acquired brands such as Farm Boy and Longo’s among others… we need more competition here, not less.

This is what I’ve come up with for now… can anyone else think of other potential requests of our government?
