Okay so let me make this clear - I love this DAW, I'd say it's superior to its commercial alternatives in many ways, however, two things really bug me:
- The song editor - It's really neat that you can have colored patterns and stuff but it lacks some of the basic features other DAWs have like rendering MIDI clips as audio clips on the fly and being able to cut them Yeah, I know you can export everything individually and then arrange and master it in Audacity but that's simply just tedious as heck and completely kills the fluidity LMMS otherwise has
- The default sampler sucks. - That weird clicking noise it makes is the most annoying thing ever And no, it's not my hardware, settings, nor my ears - I've tried 3rd party samplers and they DO NOT have that issue It's always there, completely ruins drums and while playing around with the volume envelope does fix it most of the time, it also alters the sound Getting a clean-sounding 808 is borderline impossible The only solution to this I know of is, as I've mentioned before, using a 3rd party sampler plugin However, that means you have to use a Vestige instance for every single sound you use
There are definitely other things that feel extremely clunky (*cough* automation tracks) but those two make the DAW straight-up unusable for me and it sucks because editing MIDI and mixing, things that I find quite counterintuitive in other DAWs, just feel absolutely phenomenal in LMMS
Afaik the software is open-source, well-known and has been around for years Just why hasn't anyone fixed these things yet?
