So, basically I was offered the FOH position on a national headlining tour. Ill be heading out at the end of the month. It is a 6 week run and hitting 2500-5k cap venues. We will be carrying our own console (x32) and traveling in a full tour bus. This is my first tour of this size and duration so I have a few questions.
1. I will create a few patches to accommodate different system setups. Are most systems in these size rooms full range, or Aux-fed sub configuration? Also, what sort of patching am I looking at in regards to patching at FOH? Like, will there be a patch panel? We are doing monitors from FOH (all on ears, but with possibility of wedges some nights as well), will there be runs already ran for those as well?
2. We are carrying our own console, and I am carrying my own mic kit but we are not carrying XLRs Can we rely on house to provide all XLRs needed? I am confirming with the TM about this as well
----travel questions----
3. To fit everything, I am looking at a Pelican 1560 I am flying out to meet up with the tour... first time flying with any work gear. I will have my Peli 1560, standard clothes luggage, and a backpack. Checking the luggage, and carrying on the backpack. Which should I do with the Peli? can I carry it on as well? or should I check it? I have TSA locks for everything
4. Tips for flying with pocket knives, leatherman, other "questionable" items? I know the banned list can get pretty restrictive, especially with pointy items... all that stuff would live in the Peli, so how can I get through security with the least hassle?
----Tour Bus Questions----
I know all the standard things like, no #2 on the bus, sleep with your feet to the front, don't wake anyone unless they are going to be late, etc. I've read the other threads on here but didn't see anyone ask these. If you have anything else to add, please do!
5. How much should I pack? I know to pack light, but how many days of clothes should I bring? Since we will be all over the country I'll need to pack for warm and cold.
6. Lastly, What are some ways I can eat healthy on the bus? I'm not the healthiest guy, but I don't want to completely give up and eat junk the whole time. I really want to eat salads or have stuff for sandwiches. I've heard the fridge is kinda a gimmick and doesn't work that well, is that true?
7. Anything else I haven't thought of?Any advice you can provide to prepare me for the transition to tour/bus life would be awesome!
