This is way outside my area. I'm looking for examples of literary works where the arrangement of words on the page, and particularly the line breaks where one ends a line and moves down and left (in English) to start the next line, are exploited to change the meaning or tone. Is there a technical term for this in literature (where the presentation changes the meaning?).
I'm sure there are good examples in poetry where this happens. But I'd be particularly interested to know if there are any prose examples or novels with passages like this.
In case it is unclear what I'm talking about (sorry!) here's another attempt. For most books I would argue that it doesn't matter how the words are arranged on the page (you could increase the font size so there are fewer words on the line and more pages and it wouldn't make any difference). Are there examples where the authors controls this and changing the appearance would change the work?
