City of Devi is a sort of post-apocalyptic (during-apocalyptic?) novel set in Mumbai, told from the perspectives of two people, Sarita and Jaz, who are both searching for their lover as they await the nuclear bomb that the Pakistanis seem likely to drop on their city. Having previously read The Death of Vishnu, this book seems a definite departure from Suri's other works, but I am enjoying it immensely (I'm about 70% of the way through and will probably finish it this evening).
Some points for discussion:
We talk a lot in this sub about post-apocalyptic or dystopian novels -- to what extent does this one qualify?
What are some reasons for setting this story in that environment?
As you were reading, how did you feel about the characters? Who were you rooting for? Did you find the characters multifaceted?
And I think it goes without saying that since this is a novel from 2013, we should be careful with the spoiler tags.
