Is Shakespeare actually easily intelligible for modern readers?

Post Body

I'm not a native speaker and reading Shakespeare in English for the first time now. It's really not easy for me. And the frustrating part is, I assume that every high schooler should manage to understand his writing. I could pick any line, but for example:

They durst not do 't;
They could not, would not do 't; 'tis worse than murder,
To do upon respect such violent outrage:
Resolve me, with all modest haste, which way
Thou mightst deserve, or they impose, this usage,
Coming from us.

I couldn't decipher it myself without a translation to modern English! I'm just feeling dumb and frustrated.

EDIT: people still stumble upon this post, it seems. Thank you all! I've watched King Lear with Laurence Olivier and really liked it. I'm planning to watch other Shakespeare adaptations I can put my hands on.

I’ve always found Shakespeare to be easier on the stage than on the page.
