/etc/hosts file not working as it should

I've added some things to my hosts file but it doesn't seem to be working:

127.0.0.1       doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1       googlesyndication.com
127.0.0.1       fbcdn.net
127.0.0.1       facebook.com
127.0.0.1       google.com
127.0.0.1       google.ca

For example I'm still able to get to google and facebook? I'm running arch with 3.2.8-1
