dual boot kali and mint on my external ssd?

hi. i have windows 10 on my internal ssd. and i already have mint on my external ssd. both work perfectly. i'm typing this from mint.
kali installs fine as well, but it doesn't appear in the boot menu. i see kali's partition on mint's desktop. i've installed the boot loader on the external as well.
what am i doing wrong? or is this just not possible?
