Hey, a couple of weeks ago I copied a bunch of videos from my laptop running Ubuntu 24.04 to a 256GB SanDisk SD card (formatted FAT32). They were from my friend’s wedding. I got distracted by coworkers and didn’t really watch the process closely, but I don’t remember seeing any errors. A few days later, I deleted the original videos from my laptop. When I plugged the SD card into my TV to watch, some of the videos wouldn’t play. I installed VLC on the TV, but I’m still getting the same issue—either an error like "Missing or broken index" or the video just freezes. I tried MPV Player too, and some files won’t play there either.
What should I do? Should I send the card to a professional recovery lab, or try to fix the files myself?
I’ve been recommended online services like repair.cleverfiles.com and fix.video for fixing videos, but is there any free software for Ubuntu I could use?
