The "Right Way" to Adblock with Bind9?
Post Body

I'm running Bind9 from Debian as LAN DNS, forwarding all non-local DNS, caching results for a week. I'm also downloading advert blocking DNS lists and redirecting them with records in Bind9.

Question 1:

I'm adding the domains as A records, then a wildcard subdomain beneath that. Is this the "Right Way?" Or, is there a simpler way? The list is only a few megabytes of data.

Question 2:

I read about two different ways to return results for advert blocking:

  1. Resolve to a local http server that returns empty content via rewrite rule.

  2. Return NXDOMAIN.

Is one more "right" than another?
