So I went back and forth about should I install Linux, should I stick with windows. I’ve generally installed Linux on my laptop with hybrid graphics lasted for a few days maybe a week then gone back to windows.
This time around I built a desktop with all AMD, my first AMD GPU 6600XT in about 10 years. I mainly use my system to game, I do enjoy tweaking it and learning at the same time. While I’ve used Linux a few times, it’s never been enough to fully learn it like I have with windows like most people.
For my primary use I do have about 80% of around 500 games that will work with some degree of success and some will just not generally anti cheat or the odd it’s just broke single player game.
I managed to install wow using lutris and it worked perfectly… I was somewhat confused though. In-game at 1440p using DX12 I got a buttery smooth 144fps, where as DX11 I got 150ish but drops to 100 and some stutters. I always thought DX11 would provide better results than DX12 when using Linux, why in my case was DX12 better?
I know I’m asking for an uncertain answer but do people foresee big titles like Apex, Insurgency Sandstorm etc working at some point this year?
Lastly part of me is already thinking should I just install windows again even though I do like the Linux experience I feel I’m missing out on some titles and fully fledged software like Radeon, steel series and Logitech software for my hardware.
Any opinions and advice are welcome, I know some people will suggest dual booting however I really do not want to it’s just a personal preference, I’m an all or nothing sort of person.
Thank you for reading my essay.
