Freesync/high refresh rate

I have a AMD RX 6600XT and a monitor that supports both freesync and gsync.
Do all DEs like Gnome and KDE support 144hz. And does it work on X11 and Wayland?
Is the gaming front support this in most titles on steam as it would windows. Both native and Proton.
