[Mint] boot keeps filling up with kernels and install fails - how do I keep it clear?

So about every 3-5 months or so I get to a place where my boot directory is full of different/old kernel installations and installation of the newest one fails because of this. So then I have to manually go and dig out the old ones.
Is there a way to tell linux to not keep like six kernels installed?
