Completely new to linux.
I've installed the Linux VM on my chromebook by following this youtube tutorial and am uncertain as how to install the plate tectonics program, GPlates. They have an Ubuntu version but they say to compile it from the source code for other distros which I think Chomebook's is Debian.
So far I've downloaded the ..._scr.tar.b2 and the ..._geodata.zip files to my VM partition. The instructions say that I need several programs to compile it. I've learned some of the basic apt commands and when I search for them there are so many results I don't know which one they are asking for.
Help getting it installed would be much appreciated. Going to start out with the much more beginner friendly Mint distro when I get a new laptop, whenever Framework releases their 16" laptop sometime later this year.
